Ben Simmons is preparing to tell his side of a basketball journey that has taken him from NBA stardom to years of injuries, criticism and uncertainty about his future.
ESPN has released the trailer for Being Ben, an upcoming E60 documentary produced in collaboration with Andscape. The program is scheduled to air on October 18 at 4 p.m. ET and will explore Simmons’ career, including his difficult departure from the Philadelphia 76ers and his efforts to return to the court.
The trailer offers a glimpse of Simmons addressing a question that has followed him for years: when did his relationship with Philadelphia begin to unravel?
During an interview with Andscape’s Marc J. Spears, Simmons is asked when he first felt things were heading in the wrong direction with the 76ers. His response is brief but pointed: “The truth?” The teaser stops short of revealing his full answer, leaving that account for the documentary.
Simmons entered the league as the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and became one of its most versatile young players. During his time in Philadelphia, he earned three All-Star selections and two All-Defensive First Team honors, using his size and playmaking ability to create opportunities for teammates while defending multiple positions.
His tenure with the 76ers ended following a difficult 2021 postseason and a prolonged dispute with the organization. Simmons was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in February 2022, but recurring back problems limited his availability in the seasons that followed.
Now, the documentary arrives as Simmons attempts another NBA comeback. After sitting out the 2025–26 season, he signed with the Sacramento Kings earlier this month, giving him an opportunity to resume his playing career.
