Jaylen Brown has found another way to challenge himself before the start of the NBA season, swapping the basketball court for a fencing piste during a trip to Italy.
Video shared on social media shows the Philadelphia 76ers forward wearing protective fencing gear and practicing with a young Canadian foil fencer at a facility near Milan. Brown works through the sport’s movements and exchanges with his training partner, adding an unexpected activity to an already eventful offseason.
Fencing demands precise footwork, quick reactions, balance and the ability to anticipate an opponent’s next move. Those skills have clear parallels with basketball, particularly for a player who regularly has to create space on offense and react to opponents on defense.

The session offered a glimpse of his willingness to explore sports beyond his own. The visit to Italy follows another unusual offseason experience. Earlier this month, Brown participated in an exhibition boxing bout in Lagos, Nigeria, during an event associated with his 7uice Foundation. He has also shared footage of a skydiving experience over Egypt’s Pyramids of Giza.
The activities have not replaced his basketball preparation. Brown has also been working on his game ahead of his first season with Philadelphia following his offseason trade from the Boston Celtics.
