Draymond Green is returning to the Golden State Warriors on a one-year contract worth approximately $27.7 million, keeping one of the defining players of the franchise’s championship era alongside Stephen Curry for at least one more season.
Green declined a $27.7 million player option for the 2026-27 campaign earlier in the offseason, becoming an unrestricted free agent. The decision was reportedly designed to create additional financial flexibility while Golden State explored ambitious roster moves, including a possible pursuit of LeBron James.
With James ultimately joining the Philadelphia 76ers, the Warriors shifted their attention back toward retaining Green. The anticipated agreement would essentially restore the salary Green declined while allowing both sides to reassess their futures after the season.
The move preserves Golden State’s most important partnership. Green remains the defensive organizer, primary communicator and secondary playmaker who has helped maximize Curry throughout their long run together. His ability to initiate offense, direct teammates and defend several positions remains central to how the Warriors operate, even as the franchise attempts to reshape an aging roster.
Green has spent his entire NBA career with Golden State and has been part of four championship teams. His return provides continuity and leadership, but it does not solve all of the Warriors’ problems. The front office must still add dependable scoring, size and athleticism if the team intends to compete seriously in a crowded Western Conference.
For Green, the contract offers another well-paid season with the only NBA organization he has represented. For the Warriors, it keeps Curry’s most trusted teammate in place without making another lengthy commitment.
Golden State is running it back with the heartbeat of its dynasty. The larger question is whether the front office can now build a strong enough roster around Green and Curry to make that continuity matter.
