According to reporting relayed from Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Boston Celtics have been asking for up to four first-round picks in a potential Brown deal, with the Portland Trail Blazers viewed around the league as the current front-runners.
The timing is hardly a coincidence. After their widely discussed pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo failed to materialize, Boston now finds itself at a crossroads. Rather than standing still, the Celtics appear to be exploring ways to reshape their roster while maximizing Brown’s trade value.
From Portland’s perspective, the interest is easy to understand. Brown is one of the league’s premier two-way wings, a proven champion and a player capable of immediately changing the trajectory of a young franchise. He would give the Trail Blazers the established star they’ve been searching for alongside fellow veteran Damian Lillard, who is coming back from his torn Achilles injury, and a very young core.
For Boston, however, this is about much more than simply collecting draft picks. If the Celtics ultimately decide to move Brown, it would represent one of the biggest pivots of the post-championship era.
Nothing is done, and the Trail Blazers may not be the only team in the race. But one thing is becoming increasingly clear: after missing out on the Giannis dream, Boston appears determined to avoid an offseason of standing pat. Jaylen Brown is available, and the Celtics intend to make sure the price reflects exactly what they’re giving up – a championship-caliber superstar entering his prime.
