Pablo Torre has a message for anyone hoping his investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard is beginning to fade away: it isn’t.
The investigative journalist took aim at what he described as “team-approved beat writers” who, in his view, have been waiting for the story to lose momentum. Torre suggested that assumption badly misunderstands how his reporting operation works.

The comment comes as Torre continues to release new reporting related to the NBA’s investigation into whether the Clippers circumvented salary-cap rules in connection with payments involving Leonard.
The original controversy centered on Leonard’s reported four-year, $28 million endorsement agreement with Aspiration, a company that had significant financial ties to Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and the franchise. The Clippers have denied arranging improper compensation for Leonard, and the NBA has not yet announced a finding that the team violated league rules.
More recently, Torre reported another previously undisclosed sponsorship arrangement involving Leonard and Daktronics, the company responsible for the massive Halo Board inside Intuit Dome. According to Torre’s reporting, a source alleged that the multimillion-dollar agreement was another method of directing money to Leonard outside his NBA contract.
That second story significantly raised the stakes because it broadened the controversy beyond the original Aspiration agreement. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst subsequently described the latest reporting as “extraordinarily troubling,” while the NBA’s investigation remains active.
Torre’s latest comment is therefore less about introducing another allegation than about making clear that his reporting is ongoing.
It also highlights an increasingly public tension surrounding the story. Some Clippers-focused coverage has argued that recent revelations were already known to league investigators or have questioned how much additional information Torre’s reporting actually changes. Torre, meanwhile, is signaling that judging the investigation one individual story at a time misses the larger picture.
