Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s rise has officially reached the shoe-company equivalent of superstar VIP.
Nike confirmed that the Oklahoma City Thunder guard has been added as a Signature Swoosh athlete, moving him from Converse into Nike Basketball’s main signature family. The move came after Gilgeous-Alexander teased the announcement on Instagram, and Nike’s statement made the company’s thinking pretty clear: Shai is no longer just a basketball star with style. He is one of the faces of the sport’s future.
“We are thrilled to welcome Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to the Nike Basketball signature family,” Nike said. “Coming after back-to-back MVP seasons, we are excited to build on Shai’s incredible impact with Converse as one of the most creative leaders in the game.”
Converse is owned by Nike, so this is not exactly a breakup as much as a promotion. Gilgeous-Alexander had already become the biggest basketball name under the Converse banner, launching the Converse SHAI 001 in 2025 and turning the shoe into a strong fit for his entire basketball identity.
Now Nike is pulling him directly under the main Swoosh umbrella, which changes the scale of the project. The next SGA line will not just be a cool signature shoe. It will be positioned next to the biggest names in the Nike Basketball universe.
