Facing elimination at home, short-handed and under pressure, the Denver Nuggets beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 125-113 in Game 5 to cut the series deficit to 3-2 and force the first-round matchup back to Minneapolis.

Nikola Jokić delivered a masterpiece, when needed the most, finishing with 27 points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds as the Nuggets finally found enough offense to push back against Minnesota’s defense.

Denver played without Aaron Gordon, who was ruled out with a calf injury, while Minnesota was also badly depleted after losing Anthony Edwards to a left knee injury and Donte DiVincenzo to a torn Achilles in Game 4. The series has become less a clean basketball duel than a test of what remains after bodies start disappearing.

Jamal Murray added 24 points for Denver, giving Jokić the second scoring voice the Nuggets desperately needed. Minnesota, meanwhile, kept fighting despite its injuries, but without Edwards’ downhill pressure and DiVincenzo’s shot-making, the Wolves had far less margin once Denver’s offense finally opened up.

For the Nuggets, Game 5 was not a declaration that everything is fixed. It was survival. They still trail 3-2, still have to win in Minnesota, and still have to solve a Wolves team that has made Jokić work harder than almost anyone. But after three straight losses and a week filled with injury drama, frustration and doubt, Denver found just enough of its old identity to avoid the end.

Now the series returns to Minnesota with pressure on both sides. The Wolves remain one win away. The Nuggets, suddenly, are one win away from dragging the whole thing back to Denver.
