Luka Doncic is one of the best players in the NBA, but his habit of constantly arguing with referees can hold him back. Too often it leads to easy points the other way because he’s still talking to officials instead of getting back on defense, and sometimes it gets into his head or kills his team’s momentum.
Former Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem sees Doncic’s frequent engagement with referees as a problem, recalling how a younger Jayson Tatum went through something similar before leading the Boston Celtics to a championship.
Along those lines, Haslem is urging Doncic to stop whining, even saying he won’t win a title by constantly complaining to referees.
“The next step of evolution for Luka: stop whining. Stop complaining to the refs. You’re not gonna beg your way to a title or cry your way to a championship. I remember this with a young Tatum, and he has evolved and made these changes. When we were in those battles with the Celtics, as soon as he started complaining to the refs, I’d tell our guys, ‘Now we got him.’”
Udonis Haslem compares Luka whining to the refs to a young Jayson Tatum:
