Trae Young Gets Ejected Before Wizards Debut, After Stepping Onto Court From Bench

Trae Young hasn’t played a minute for the Washington Wizards yet, but he’s already picked up his first ejection in their colors.

Young, who is slated to make his Wizards debut on Thursday against the Utah Jazz, was ejected Monday night during Washington’s 123–118 loss to the Houston Rockets after leaving the bench area and stepping onto the court to argue a non-call in the third quarter. The move drew an automatic technical and ejection under NBA rules governing bench personnel. Houston forward Tari Eason was also ejected during the sequence.

After the game, Young addressed the incident with a mix of humor and reassurance, posting:

“Don’t expect me to get ejected too many more times D.C. … but I’m definitely bringing that energy & competitiveness when I’m back for my brothers!”

The moment was especially surreal because Young remains in the ramp-up phase after knee and quadriceps issues that have kept him sidelined since late December. He last played on Dec. 27, and earlier Monday he indicated on social media that he was targeting Thursday for his return.

Washington acquired the four-time All-Star from the Atlanta Hawks in early January, but his on-court introduction has been delayed by his recovery timeline. Now, his first official imprint on the Wizards’ season is an ejection that came while he was in street clothes, an odd prelude to what the organization hopes is a stabilizing, headline-changing debut later this week.
