Indiana Pacers rookie guard Kam Jones, the No. 38 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, was arrested Monday morning following a brief police chase in Indianapolis. The incident occurred just days before the start of the NBA regular season, casting an unexpected shadow over the team’s preparations.
According to Indiana State Police, officers attempted to pull over Jones around 9:50 a.m. on southbound Interstate 65 for alleged erratic driving. Jones reportedly failed to stop, leading troopers on a short pursuit that ended near the Fletcher Avenue exit southeast of downtown Indianapolis.
He was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Marion County Jail on preliminary charges of misdemeanor reckless driving and felony resisting law enforcement.
Jones, 23, was a standout guard at Marquette University before being selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft. He was later traded to the Pacers and signed a four-year deal in July. Due to a reported back injury, Jones has yet to make his NBA debut.
The Indiana Pacers acknowledged the arrest in a brief statement, saying they are aware of the situation and are gathering more information.
Jones is expected to face arraignment later this week. Depending on the outcome of the legal process, the Pacers may choose to suspend or waive the rookie guard. For now, his future with the team remains uncertain.
