Just weeks after undergoing ankle surgery that was expected to sideline him for the start of the 2025–26 NBA season, Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro may be on track for a much quicker return than initially anticipated.
During a recent preseason broadcast, an Atlanta Hawks announcer shared a surprising update that has Heat fans buzzing with optimism.
“I was talking to the Miami Heat, some of their personnel said Tyler Herro will be ready to go by the beginning of the regular season,” the announcer revealed, suggesting Herro’s recovery is ahead of schedule.

Herro, 25, underwent surgery on September 19 to address posterior impingement syndrome in his left ankle and foot. The procedure, performed by Dr. Thomas San Giovanni in Miami, was expected to keep him out for approximately eight weeks. That timeline would have ruled him out for the first 10–12 games of the season. However, this new report hints that Herro could be cleared in time for Miami’s season opener on October 21.
The update comes as welcome news for the Heat, who are entering a new era following the trade deadline departure of Jimmy Butler. Herro, coming off a career-best season in which he averaged 23.9 points, 5.5 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game, is expected to be the focal point of Miami’s offense.
While the team has not officially confirmed the accelerated timeline, Herro’s potential early return could significantly boost the Heat’s chances of staying competitive in a reloaded Eastern Conference.
