WNBA Sex Toy Incidents Escalate; Now Linked To Cryptocurrency Meme Group

A disturbing trend at WNBA games has taken a bizarre new turn, as yet another neon green sex toy was thrown onto the court. This time during the closing seconds of the Atlanta Dream’s victory over the Chicago Sky.

It marks the sixth such incident in less than two weeks, and now, according to multiple reports including Reuters, the stunts have been linked to a cryptocurrency meme coin group promoting a token called Green Dildo Coin.

The latest incident occurred Thursday night in Chicago, where the object landed near players during live action. Similar disruptions have taken place in Atlanta, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and New York, prompting widespread condemnation from players, coaches, and league officials. In one case, Phoenix police arrested 18-year-old Kaden Lopez after he allegedly struck a fan and a child with the object. He now faces charges of assault, disorderly conduct, and public display of explicit sexual material.

The group behind Green Dildo Coin has claimed responsibility for the stunts, describing them as “viral pranks” meant to disrupt the status quo in the crypto world and gain attention without paying influencers. A spokesperson told USA Today,

“We didn’t do this because we dislike women’s sports… Creating disruption at games happens in every sport. We knew that to get a voice in the space, we had to do something viral.”

Despite their claims of harmless intent, WNBA players have expressed outrage. Sophie Cunningham of the Indiana Fever, who narrowly avoided being hit during a game in Los Angeles, said,

“Everyone’s trying to make sure the W is not a joke and it’s taken seriously, and then that happens. How are we ever going to get taken seriously?”

Sparks coach Lynne Roberts called the behavior “dangerous” and “stupid,” while Chicago Sky center Elizabeth Williams urged the perpetrators to “grow up.”

The WNBA has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy, stating that any fan who throws objects onto the court will be immediately ejected, face a minimum one-year ban, and be subject to criminal prosecution.

Meanwhile, the crypto group shows no signs of stopping. They’ve placed similar objects at high-profile locations like the Wall Street Bull statue and behind home plate at MLB games. Their coin has reportedly surged over 300% in value since the stunts began.
