The New York Knicks, Expectations vs Reality

New York Knicks

Following their 95-93 loss to the Cavs, what can we expect from the New York Knicks for the rest of the season? Well, considering that they are 2 games under .500% things are not looking overly great for them. The Knicks are currently sitting in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with their 23-25 record. This same record would currently see them tied for 9th over in the Western Conference which isn’t much better if we’re being honest. Going 5-5 in their last 10 games and on a current 1 loss streak, can the Knicks turn it around in time to make a proper run for the playoffs? It won’t be easy, but it is definitely doable. The season is just over halfway finished so the Knicks will definitely need to pick things up moving forward if they want to end the season in a better position.

Can new signings help the Knicks?

The knicks are still optimistic and are trying to do what they can to get new players in to help the team out. While he may not be seeing too much playing time moving forward, it has been almost two weeks since the Knicks signed Cam Reddish. Reddish got his first knicks appearance against the Clippers and only played just over 5-minutes. Reddish is fighting for his space on what is generally a 9-man roster and it may take time before we see more from him, but don’t count him out just yet!

Thibodeau said. “When we were playing well, we pretty much had a nine-man rotation. But when I have opportunities to get him in, I want to get him in. And it was good just to let him get his feet wet a little bit. He’s working really well in practice. You never know in this league, you can have an injury, and the next thing you’re in there. I look at a guy like Quentin. He benefited from everyone being out, got in there playing well and he’s still in there.’’

Will the Knicks make it to the Finals?

Looking forward to the finals and the Nets are the current favorites to win with +260 odds. Unfortunately, for the Knicks, they are quite a bit further down the list and have odds of +20,000. While this doesn’t look good for them, those with faith could see a massive return on winnings should they feel it’s worth putting down a couple of dollars on them at this time! While I personally wouldn’t recommend it, we have seen crazier things happen! An injury here and a bit of luck there and the Knicks could be back in it!

Moving forward.

We all know the Knicks have a lot of work to do if they want to make a proper run for things. They are facing off against the Heat Wednesday night and it is looking like they will have a good few players on the injured list. Luka Samanic, Derrick Rose, Mitchell Robinson, and Ryan Arcidiacono are all set to miss this matchup.

As mentioned, the Knicks are 5-5 in their last 10 games and after their 95-93 loss to the Cavs, expect them to be ready to turn things up a bit. Julius Randle is going to be a key player for them as he is currently leading the team in points, rebounds, and assists. However, he will need the help of teammates like Barret and Walker to name a couple of they want to get things turned around. Even Evan Fournier is a crucial part of the team’s offense, averaging 13.7 PPG making him the 3rd leading scorer on the team.

Realistically, the Knicks are seriously going to struggle to make it to the Finals. However, it’s not impossible but if I were the Knicks, I would be looking to keep my players healthy, get my injured players back on the court and bring in a couple of additions in preparation for next season. With the All-star weekend coming up in February, this could be just what the knicks need to kind of reset and have a stronger finish for the remainder of the season.

Knicks over the years.

The Knicks haven’t been to the NBA finals since 1999 when they lost to the Spurs and it hasn’t been very good to be a Knicks fan since if we’re being honest. While they have made it to the playoffs as recently as last year, they generally struggle to get out of the first round. Out of the last 10 seasons, they have only made it to 3 playoffs. Somehow, the Knicks fan base is as strong as ever and on any given night at Madison Square Garden you can see the likes of Spike Lee and other celebs sitting courtside taking the game in!

The Last time the Knicks won the Finals was quite some time ago! The Kicks won the 1973 Finals and finished the season with a record of 57-25, something one would imagine that they are striving for again. As it has been so long, they are definitely due for a trip to the Finals! While it may not happen for them this year, I would keep on an eye on them over the next couple of years as it will come!

While it would be harsh to count the Knicks out just yet, we have to be realistic. The fact is they are likely to struggle a bit for the rest of the season but only time will tell. We will need to keep a close eye on them to see just how this all plays out over the coming weeks.
