The Oklahoma City Thunder remained undefeated with a 108-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night, but what should have been another celebration quickly turned into a heartbreaking evening after All-Star Jalen Williams suffered a gruesome injury that left teammates visibly devastated.
With just 1:14 remaining in the fourth quarter, Williams attacked the basket and attempted to finish a dunk through traffic. As he was challenged by Clippers defenders Kris Dunn and Derrick Jones Jr., the 25-year-old lost his balance in midair and landed awkwardly, with his left leg bending underneath his body at an unnatural angle.
The frightening scene immediately brought the game to a halt. Medical personnel rushed onto the court, covering Williams’ injured leg with towels while players from both teams reacted in disbelief. Dunn was subsequently assessed a flagrant-1 foul following a video review.

Williams remained on the floor for several minutes before being placed on a stretcher and taken off the court. As the crowd chanted his nickname, “J-Dub,” the visibly shaken forward offered two thumbs up, prompting a standing ovation from the Oklahoma City faithful.
The emotional impact on his teammates was unmistakable. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who covered his face with his jersey during the incident, struggled to contain his emotions during his postgame interview.
“I just feel bad for him,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, fighting back tears.
“It’s obviously going to be tough without a player like that. But he’s not gone forever. He’ll be back better than ever, and we know it. We’ve just got to hold the fort down until he comes back.”
Head coach Mark Daigneault was equally shaken.
“We’re not doing great,” he admitted following the victory.
The injury is especially devastating considering Williams’ recent struggles to stay healthy. The former All-NBA selection appeared in just 33 regular-season games last season, primarily because of hamstring problems, and missed much of Oklahoma City’s playoff run.
Williams finished Sunday’s contest with eight points, five assists and two rebounds before leaving the floor.
The Thunder nevertheless improved to 3-0 behind Gilgeous-Alexander’s 34 points, while Ajay Mitchell contributed 18 off the bench and Isaiah Hartenstein recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
But on Sunday night, championship ambitions and basketball results became secondary. Oklahoma City won the game, but the only thing that truly mattered afterward was the health of Jalen Williams.
