Giannis Antetokounmpo’s transition to Miami has come with a new team, a new city and, apparently, a very unconventional ride to practice.
The Heat superstar revealed that while he was in the middle of moving, he simply decided to ride along in the U-Haul rather than switch into a more traditional car before heading to practice.
“I was like, I’m just going to hop in the U-Haul,” Antetokounmpo said.
He then decided to have some fun with a Heat staffer who helps players with day-to-day needs.
“I was like, ‘Yo, come check my ride.’ He was like, ‘Hey, what you got, man? You got the new Bentley? Rolls-Royce?’”

Instead, the surprise waiting outside was a moving truck. The story fits neatly into what has already been an unusually personal adjustment period for Antetokounmpo. After spending the first 13 seasons of his NBA career in Milwaukee, he was traded to Miami in July and has openly talked about how different everything feels, from learning new teammates and terminology to adjusting to an entirely new routine and even a new route to practice.
His first weeks with the Heat have also been defined by a clear effort to immerse himself in the organization. Antetokounmpo joined teammates for offseason workouts before training camp, has spoken positively about Miami’s demanding practice environment and has repeatedly emphasized that he wants to understand the team’s system rather than simply rely on his individual talent.
