LeBron James’ 76ers Jersey Sets Sales Record Across All Sports

LeBron James’ move to the Philadelphia 76ers has already produced a record-breaking commercial impact.

According to sales data provided by Fanatics, James sold more jerseys during the first 48 hours after joining Philadelphia than any athlete following a move to a new team across all sports. His No. 23 Sixers jersey surpassed the previous Fanatics record established after Shohei Ohtani joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in December 2023.

The early demand also exceeded the response to James’ previous move. Fanatics reported that more LeBron-related 76ers merchandise was sold during the first 24 hours after his Philadelphia announcement than Lakers merchandise was sold during the entire first week following his arrival in Los Angeles in 2018.

James’ popularity was visible throughout the wider Fanatics network as well. Since his decision became public, merchandise connected to the four-time NBA champion reportedly accounted for eight of the ten best-selling products across all sports on the company’s websites.

Fanatics is the official e-commerce partner of the NBA and the 76ers, although the company did not publicly disclose the exact number of jerseys sold or the total revenue generated. The record is therefore based on Fanatics’ internal sales comparisons rather than publicly available unit figures.

James’ arrival has immediately transformed Philadelphia into one of basketball’s biggest commercial attractions. Before he has played a game for the franchise, his new jersey has already produced the most successful team-change launch Fanatics has recorded in any sport.
