The Miami Heat did not land their dream reunion with LeBron James, so Pat Riley and the front office must now search through the remaining veteran market for a different kind of upgrade.
Miami is reportedly expected to consider experienced scorers such as DeMar DeRozan, Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal as it looks to strengthen the roster following James’ decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers. DeRozan had previously been viewed as a realistic option for the Heat if their LeBron pursuit failed, while Miami has also monitored Beal’s availability.
None of the three would provide the complete package James offered. DeRozan remains a dependable half-court scorer, but his limited three-point volume could complicate Miami’s spacing. Beal offers more perimeter shooting and shot creation, although his recent injury history creates obvious risk. Westbrook would bring pace, playmaking and relentless energy, but his fit would depend heavily on his role and the lineups around him.
The Heat are therefore shopping in a market filled with recognizable names but imperfect solutions. Miami needs additional scoring and playmaking, yet it must also avoid adding another veteran whose weaknesses become difficult to hide in the postseason.
Missing out on LeBron changes the size of the move, not the objective. The Heat still intend to compete, and Riley has never been known for quietly accepting an empty chair.
