Reigning MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is believed to have been the victim of a home break-in while playing in a game Thursday night.
On the evening of October 30, while Gilgeous-Alexander was helping lead the Thunder to a 127–108 victory over the Washington Wizards at the Paycom Center, police responded to reports of a break-in at a residence in Nichols Hills, an upscale suburb of Oklahoma City. The home, valued at nearly $4 million, is believed to belong to the 27-year-old NBA star.
Local news outlets reported a heavy police presence at the scene, including multiple officers, a police dog, and even a helicopter hovering above the neighborhood. The break-in reportedly occurred around 10 p.m. local time, coinciding with the Thunder’s game. Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the incident.

Authorities from both the Nichols Hills Police Department and the Oklahoma City Police Department are investigating the incident. As of now, no details have been released regarding suspects or whether any items were stolen.
This break-in is part of a disturbing trend: professional athletes’ homes being targeted while they’re away for games. In late 2024, the NFL, NBA, and NHL issued warnings about organized criminal groups targeting players’ residences during scheduled matches. Earlier this year, several individuals were charged in connection with similar burglaries involving stars like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Bobby Portis.
Despite the off-court scare, Gilgeous-Alexander continues to shine on the hardwood. He recorded 31 points and seven assists in Thursday’s win, helping the Thunder maintain a perfect 6–0 start to the season.
