Kevin Durant’s talent isn’t up for debate. He’s one of the best players the game has ever seen. But the move to Golden State, right after losing to them, keeps resurfacing whenever his legacy comes up. For many, his championships are seen as the result of joining a team that was already great.
Critics take it a step further, arguing that Durant would’ve never won a championship without Stephen Curry, or that he still needs to prove he can win one without him. After all, Curry already had a title before Durant arrived and won another after he left. It’s a question that continues to follow Durant, and even now with him in Houston, the noise hasn’t faded.
The criticism doesn’t shake Durant though. He feels he has nothing left to prove, specifically when it comes to winning a championship without his former Warriors teammate.
“I never looked at Steph [Curry] like Shaq and me as Kobe [Bryant]… I was a Finals MVP, averaging 35 a night. That makes no sense to me.”
