Could Ja Morant Become Miami’s Next Franchise Player?

Ja Morant looked untouchable at one point in Memphis, but the shine has worn off after a stretch of regression, injuries, and suspensions. With Taylor Jenkins and Desmond Bane already out, it’s fair to wonder if Morant could be the next domino to fall.

If Morant officially becomes available, Miami is already being mentioned around NBA circles as a possible destination. The Heat aren’t striking fear in opponents right now, but Kel’el Ware, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro provide a solid foundation.

Would adding Morant be enough to turn the Heat around again? That’s another debate for later. But for Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey, the simple truth is that Miami needs another face after losing Jimmy Butler last season, and he believes Morant fits the bill, so much so that he proposed how a deal could work.

Ja Morant for Terry Rozier, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakučionis, a 2030 first-round picks and a top-five protected 2032 first-round pick

“When healthy and not serving any kind of league-mandated suspension, Ja Morant is one of the most dynamic lead playmakers in the NBA. His highlight plays are often gasp-inducing. … As for Miami, this is a pretty penny, but it should be desperate for star power after losing Jimmy Butler last season. The sample wasn’t huge, but in the wake of the Butler trade, neither Tyler Herro nor Bam Adebayo looked ready to carry the franchise back to title contention. Morant, with an assist from #HeatCulture, has enough talent to fill that role.”
