From the start, Bronny James was always going to be one of the most scrutinized young talents because of his last name. That hasn’t faded in his second season. The scrutiny continues on whether he’s good enough to stick around or if going 55th overall was because of his father.
His preseason debut against the Phoenix Suns didn’t quiet the noise. Bronny finished with 8 points, shooting 1-for-12 from the field with 2 turnovers. It was a rough outing, and predictably the criticism came fast.
Former No.1 overall pick Kwame Brown took the critique a step further. In what was only Bronny’s first game of the season, Brown took issue with Bronny taking 12 shots and added that high school players are ahead of the Lakers guard at this stage.
“This ain’t year one. This is year two. This is year two. This don’t make no sense. We got high school players better than Bronny. Absolutely got high school players better than Bronny. Bronny was never the best high school player on his team. He was the never the best college player on his team. And he still gets 12 shots in a preseason game where everybody’s auditioning where nobody normally passes the ball. Everybody trying to get their sh-t off because it’s new people out there. It ain’t just you.”
