There is growing speculation around LeBron James and what’s next for his career. People aren’t just asking how much longer he’ll play but whether he’s eyeing another exit and a different jersey before he retires.
That idea gained more weight when Rich Paul spoke about LeBron’s commitment to winning a championship and left open the possibility that his future might not stay tied to the Lakers if the team can’t compete at that level.
“LeBron wants to compete for a championship,” Paul said. “He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we’ve had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career.”
Still, not everyone is convinced LeBron could be on his way out. Mychal Thompson, who played for the Lakers and father of Klay Thompson, believes LeBron is not going anywhere and will end his career in purple and gold.
“I expect him to be there the whole season,” Thompson said. “I would be shocked if he asks out or if he is moved. I expect him to retire as a Laker.”
