Former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins has never been one to sugarcoat the truth, and his latest behind-the-scenes story about the 2018–19 Golden State Warriors is pure gold.
Appearing on the Run Your Race podcast, Cousins described just how dominant, and borderline arrogant, the Warriors were during their superteam era, revealing that they often skipped most of their pregame warmups.
“It was so bad, bro,” Cousins said. “There were times we were going out there [for warmups] with like six minutes on the clock. Steve [Kerr] used to be like, ‘Man, y’all are being disrespectful’”.
The 2018–19 Warriors were stacked with talent: Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala—and Cousins himself. With two MVPs and multiple All-Stars on the roster, the team had every reason to feel unbeatable. But according to Cousins, that confidence sometimes crossed the line.
Instead of hitting the court with the usual 20 minutes left on the clock, the Warriors would stroll out with just six to spare. Head coach Steve Kerr, known for his player-friendly approach, reportedly grew frustrated with the optics—even if the team still delivered on the court.
“We’re going to do our job every night,” Cousins added. “It was just the look of it… this s*** getting a little disrespectful”.

The Warriors would go on to reach their fifth straight NBA Finals that season, though injuries to Durant and Thompson ultimately derailed their three-peat hopes.
