As the Oklahoma City Thunder prepare for a high-stakes Game 7 in the 2025 NBA Finals, Draymond Green has issued a stark warning: this could be their only shot at a championship.
Speaking on The Draymond Green Show, the four-time NBA champion didn’t mince words about the pressure facing OKC.
“If they don’t win it this year… they may NEVER win a championship,” Green said.
On paper, the Thunder seem built for sustained success. Their core—Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (26), Jalen Williams (23), and Chet Holmgren (22)—is young, talented, and under contract. They also boast a treasure trove of draft picks and cap flexibility. But Green, who’s seen dynasties rise and fall, believes that opportunity doesn’t always knock twice.
“When you get the opportunity to win a championship, if you win it, you give yourself the opportunity to win more. But if you lose it, now you start tweaking stuff—and those tweaks could put you further away than you were,” he explained.
The Thunder entered the Finals as favorites after a 68-win season and an MVP campaign from Gilgeous-Alexander. But after squandering a 3–2 series lead and getting blown out in Game 6, the pressure is squarely on their shoulders. Green emphasized that Indiana is playing loose, with nothing to lose, while OKC is burdened by expectations.
“It’s a coin flip. All it takes is one Kyrie Irving shot to flip the game, one LeBron James chase-down block,” Green said, referencing the razor-thin margins that define championship moments.
Green’s own Warriors team once looked invincible—until injuries, roster changes, and cap constraints reshaped their trajectory. He sees parallels in OKC’s situation: a young team on the brink, but vulnerable to the unpredictable forces of NBA parity.
“You can’t take this moment for granted,” Green warned. “Because if you don’t finish the job, you might never get back.”
