Former Los Angeles Lakers star Lamar Odom has once again found himself in the headlines, but this time for unfortunate reasons. The two-time NBA champion was reportedly evicted from his Los Angeles residence after failing to pay $45,000 in rent.
Odom had entered into a verbal agreement with Executive Recovery Group Inc., the sublessor of the mansion in Studio City, California, in December 2024. Under this agreement, he was expected to pay $15,000 per month, with payments due on the first of each month. However, after failing to make payments for three consecutive months, the sublessor sued Odom, demanding past-due rent, attorney fees, and damages.
A three-day notice was issued to Odom, requiring him to pay the outstanding $45,000 or vacate the property. When he failed to respond, the lease agreement was forfeited on March 17. By April 28, the court ruled in favor of Executive Recovery Group Inc., officially ordering Odom to vacate the residence.
Odom’s struggles have been well-documented. After leaving the Lakers in 2011, his career took a downward turn. His stint with the Dallas Mavericks was short-lived, and by 2013, he had retired from the NBA at just 33 years old.
His personal life also faced turmoil. His marriage to Khloé Kardashian ended in divorce, and his battle with substance abuse nearly cost him his life in 2015, when he suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks due to an overdose. Despite efforts to rebuild his life, financial difficulties continue to plague the former NBA star.
With his eviction finalized, Odom’s future remains uncertain. Reports indicate that he has yet to publicly comment on the situation or reveal his next steps. Once a $116 million NBA star, Odom’s financial troubles highlight the challenges many former athletes face after leaving professional sports.
As he navigates this latest setback, fans and former teammates alike hope he can find stability and regain control of his life.
