Michael Jordan’s recent announcement that he will join NBC as a special contributor has sparked excitement across the basketball world—but not everyone is celebrating.
Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright, known for his outspoken opinions, addressed the news on his podcast, “What’s Wright?”, but instead of offering genuine praise, he delivered a sarcastic take that ended with a jab at Jordan’s well-documented gambling history.
During his podcast, Wright appeared to fake enthusiasm about Jordan’s new role before delivering a sharp remark about how NBC should utilize the six-time NBA champion.
“Michael Jordan’s going to join NBC as a contributor… NBC is a different network, but fair is fair, I got to give credit where it’s due. I mean, if they’re going to use him the way he should be used, that is going to be an unbelievable addition. And by that I mean, he should be their gambling expert,” Wright said.
Jordan’s gambling habits have been widely discussed throughout his career, with speculation surrounding whether they played a role in his first retirement from basketball in 1993. While Jordan has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, conspiracy theories have persisted, fueled by reports of his high-stakes betting and financial losses.
Despite Wright’s sarcasm, NBC has made it clear that Jordan’s role will focus on basketball analysis and storytelling, not gambling. The network, which recently secured an 11-year NBA broadcast deal, is looking to bring Jordan’s unique perspective and championship experience to its coverage.
