Former Arkansas And NBA Star Oliver Miller, Dead At 54

The basketball world is mourning the loss of Oliver Miller, affectionately known as “The Big O,” who passed away at the age of 54.

Miller’s basketball journey began at the University of Arkansas, where he played under Hall of Fame coach Nolan Richardson. As a key member of the Razorbacks, Miller helped lead the team to the 1990 Final Four, cementing his place as a legend in Arkansas basketball history. Miller was inducted into the University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor in 2016.

In 1992, Miller was selected as the 22nd overall pick in the NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. During his rookie season, he played a pivotal role in the Suns’ run to the NBA Finals, showcasing his versatility and basketball IQ. Over his nine-year NBA career, Miller played for six teams, including the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, and Minnesota Timberwolves. His best season came in 1995-96 with the Raptors, where he averaged 12.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

Miller’s contributions extended beyond the stat sheet. His infectious personality and sense of humor made him a beloved figure among fans and teammates. Despite facing challenges, including weight issues and off-court struggles, Miller’s resilience and dedication to the game earned him respect throughout the basketball community.

The Phoenix Suns, Toronto Raptors, Minnesota Timberwolves and the University of Arkansas have all paid tribute to Miller, highlighting his contributions and the indelible mark he left on the sport.
