Victor Wembanyama has taken on the role of host for the San Antonio Spurs during their trip to Paris, filling in for the team’s head coach, Gregg Popovich, who was unable to travel due to health reasons.
Upon the team’s arrival in Paris, Wembanyama wasted no time in rolling out the red carpet for his teammates. He organized a shopping trip and a dinner, giving the Spurs a taste of Parisian culture and hospitality. His efforts did not go unnoticed, as his teammates appreciated the warm welcome and the chance to bond outside of the basketball court.
“Pop had his schedule here… I know that he would have done something like that, too. Doing that on the first day was important for me, just as a welcome to my team. I know, if I went to any of these guys’ countries, or city, I would have loved to find out about where they come from to get to know them better, because they’re all good human beings. So it’s a real chance to share these moments together.”

Wembanyama’s involvement didn’t stop at just being a host; he also served as a tour guide, taking his teammates to various local spots and sharing his knowledge of the city. This gesture was particularly meaningful for Wembanyama, who has deep roots in Paris and wanted to give his teammates a similar experience to what he would receive if he visited their hometowns.
The Spurs’ interim coach, Mitch Johnson, praised Wembanyama’s grounded nature and his ability to handle the added responsibilities with ease.
“He’s very mature and humble,” Johnson said. “He knows what his goals are and goes about it in a way that’s a testament to himself and his family.”
As the Spurs prepare for their games against the Indiana Pacers, Wembanyama remains focused on his performance on the court. However, his role as a host already highlighted his leadership potential and his commitment to thw team, both on and off the court.
