The Los Angeles Lakers displayed their dominance during the 2019-20 season, posting a strong 52-19 record. They extended their remarkable run through the NBA bubble, where they outperformed every opponent they faced in the playoffs, to eventually clinch the NBA championship.
The Lakers, it seemed, had decoded the blueprint to victory, featuring a pair of superstars, defensive-minded backup centers, and a oster of skillful 3-and-D players. However, the next season saw them changing what was already successful, letting go of crucial players from their championship run.
Former Lakers big man Dwight Howard, who wasn’t part of the team after their championship year, recently expressed his sentiments about his former team. Reflecting on their championship year, Howard expressed that they should’ve had the chance to run it back with the same core.
Per Complex:
“But I do love the Lakers, man. We had the championship run there and I wish we would’ve had a chance to keep going because that was the squad right there. We had everything. We had everything.”
