When Kevin Garnett Predicted That Thon Maker Would Become The NBA MVP One Day

Yesterday, after five years in the NBA, free agent Then Maker signed with the Israeli Champion Hapoel Jerusalem.

While Hapoel certainly is a great team – they also signed former No.1 Draft pick Anthony Bennett – it also is a step down from the NBA. It definitely is no shame at all to continue one’s career abroad, one statement by NBA legend Kevin Garnett came into my mind upon reading about Maker’s decision.

During a 2017 interview with Bleacher Report, Garnett spoke highly Thon and how he reminded him of his young-self. He ended up not only calling Maker a future superstar, but also a future MVP.

“Thon Maker reminds me a lot of myself. He loves the game. He’s a young, exuberant athlete who has a lot of tools—he has touch; he has agility; he has really, good feet. He has a really good shot from three-point all the way up to 19 to 21 feet. He has very good bones, as we say.

Thon is going to be the MVP of the league one day. Mark it down. He has the bones. He has the appetite to be able to chase something like that.”

Maker now left the NBA with 263 career games played in which he averaged 4.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game… not exactly MVP stats.
