The Crazy Story Of Austin Reaves Turning Down The Ability To Get Drafted In Order To Sign With Lakers As Free Agent

Austin Reaves averaged 18.3 points for Oklahoma as a senior last season, with his great ability to attack the rim and shoot from midrange.

He definitely made more than enough noise to be selected in the NBA Draft, something that didn’t happen, and raised many questions.

While we haven’t gotten any definite answers yet, a report by Sam Vecenie of The Athletic suggests that Reaves opted not to get drafted in order to select his own spot after the draft – which is exactly what happened when he signed with the Lakers following the draft:

“Reaves signed with the Lakers on a two-way deal following the draft. Sources told The Athletic that Reaves turned down the ability to get drafted in order to pick his own spot after the draft. Ultimately, the Lakers were the most attractive option, and it’s easy to see why.”
