Sixers Becoming More Confident About Signing LeBron James

This coming summer, LeBron James is expected to decline his player option ($35.6 million) and become an unrestricted free agent. The possibility of resigning with the Cavs is more than given, but LeBron will most likely also meet with other teams. While both Los Angeles teams have been rumored as a potential candidate to sign LeBron, Houston and San Antonio apparently also are interested in landing James. One dark horse candidate though, is becoming a more and more realistic option for the four time MVP, the Philadelphia 76ers.

In Philadelphia, LeBron could lead one of the league’s youngest and most promising teams. Ben Simmons (1st overall pick in 2016), Joel Embiid (3rd overall pick in 2014), Dario Saric (12th overall pick in 2014) and Markelle Fultz (1st overall pick in 2017), are already great players with an incredibly high ceiling. James could become their mentor, especially to Ben Simmons, who will most likely turn out to be an all-time talent. The best thing, Philadelphia also has the cap flexibility to acquire him without sacrificing roster strength.

Marc Stein said in his latest newsletter:

“I now fully understand why whispers about the Philadelphia 76ers and their growing behind-the-scenes confidence that they can woo LeBron to Philly this summer are getting louder.”

LeBron’s free agency is still a huge unknown. I think that the Cavs’ pick will play a huge role in him staying or leaving Cleveland. But, when he will start to consider options, Philadelphia seems like a great choice. He’d remain in the East and would most likely make the Finals, and he would play for a young team that could become a dynasty.
