Shaquille O’Neal Reacts To Joel Embiid Saying He Can Mimic Other All-Time Greats: “He Knows He Can’t”

Joel Embiid has been on an absolute tear for the Philadelphia 76ers this season, averaging 29.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game on 49.9% shooting from the field while leading the team to the third spot in the Eastern Conference.

Embiid has done nothing to lessen his reputation as one of the most talented and skilled players in the NBA today, and two weeks ago, following a 50-point game against the Orlando Magic, the Sixers big man was as confident as ever when discussing his unique and versatile skillset.

“Whenever I want, I’m able to be Shaq and whenever I want, I’m also able to be Dirk or Kobe  or MJ, or any guards, really,” Embiid explained. “Shooting off the dribble or pull-ups or ball-handling, just a combination of everything offensively so I was OK tonight.”

Embiid is a dominant big man who could punish defenders in all three levels by showcasing an exceptional combination of strength, shooting, handles and footwork. He has done it on a regular, and there’s no arguing that.

That being said, not everyone is a fan of Embiid’s recent statement about being able to mimic the likes of those all-time greats he mentioned. Shaquille O’Neal, for instance, said that Embiid knows himself that he can’t do it. Per heavy.com:

“Joel is a bright player who is very confident in his game. He knows he can’t just become Shaq, Dirk, Kobe or MJ at any time but I take nothing away from him. Kid can ball. He’s an All-Star that will be around for a while.”
