Oscar Robertson Wants Russell Westbrook To Break His Triple-Doubles Record

During the Washington Wizards’ game against the Milwaukee Bucks last night, Russell Westbrook secured another triple double when there still was 6:29 min left on the clock in the third quarter.

It ended up being Westbrook’s 179th career triple double, leaving him trailing Oscar Robertson’s all-time record of 181 triple doubles by only two.

It was doomed to be one of those records that couldn’t be broken, but Westbrook, who will average a triple double over an entire season for the fourth time in his career, will likely break it this season.

When asked about Westbrook likely breaking his record, Oscar Robertson revealed that he is cheering for the Wizards guard to get his record, while defending him from his critics for not (yet) winning a championship.

Per New York Times’ Marc Stein:

There’s no doubt about it. I hope he gets it. I think he’s one of the elite guards in basketball, and I think it’s ridiculous that some sportswriters criticize him because he has not won a championship. Players don’t win championships by themselves. You’ve got to have good management. You need to get with the right group of players.
