NBA Offseason Grades – Los Angeles Lakers & Memphis Grizzlies

LOS ANGELES LAKERS: A

I think the Lakers did an excellent job this offseason as they continue to take steps in the right direction. They of course drafted highly touted talent Lonzo Ball with the 2nd pick in the NBA Draft who will now be the face of their franchise after they said goodbye to D’Angelo Russell. In the Russell trade, they also acquired productive center Brook Lopez, who will massively help them score the ball this upcoming season. Lonzo Ball wasn’t the only solid draft choice they made however, they did select Kyle Kuzma in what seems like a draft steal as well. Other additions include Kentavious Cadwell Pope and Andrew Bogut as their defensive stocks rose with those two names. A very nice summer for the Lakeshow.

MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES: C-

The Grizzlies didn’t do much this offseason to catch the vast improvement in the Western Conference. They hung onto their main pieces, but it looks as though the elite of the conference got better whilst they remained stagnant. Because of this, their roster will largely be the same as last season. They did say goodbye to fan favorite Vince Carter, and did bring in Tyreke Evans and Ben McLemore for some playmaking and shooting, but it’s not nearly enough to catch the rest of the pack. A quiet summer inside the Grind House.
