Michael Jordan Was “Ultimate Decision Maker” In James Borrego Firing

Trust the process?

After years and years of mediocrity, if even that, the Charlotte Hornets had actually been on cloud nine ever since drafting LaMelo Ball. Ball entered the league with a lot of doubts hanging over him as the #3 overall pick, but he hasn’t been messing around and has been silencing all his doubters ever since.

The Charlotte Hornets aren’t contending anytime soon, but they can look forward to their future as they got a promising future with players like Ball, Bridges and Rozier. Their young core paired with some more experienced talent in Gordon Hayward and Kelly Oubre Jr. also helped the team to become one of the most balanced scoring threats in the league.

So after years, and years of agony, Hornets owner Michael Jordan could have trusted the process and be happy and excited about his team and its future.

But after falling short of making the playoffs ever so slightly, by losing their play-in game, for a second year in a row, the Hornets decided to part ways with head coach James Borrego.

While this came pretty surprising to many, Shams Charania now revealed that Michael Jordan was the “ultimate decision maker” when it comes to releasing Borrego of his duties.

“I would look at their last two play-in performances. Last year they have a blowout loss to Indiana. This year they have a blowout loss to Atlanta.

I think the more that franchise looked internally, I’m told what was a priority was accountability. Holding the young players, holding that locker room accountable for defense specifically.

This was a team that has always been under James Borrego one of the best offensive teams. They lagged behind on defense, year after year… The ultimate decision maker in Charlotte that got James Borrego fired I’m told, Michael Jordan… the front office had meetings with Michael Jordan this week, and it was determined by Jordan that they were going to move on, get off of James Borrego, and now they’ll have a coaching search.”
