Marcus Morris On Backing Out Of Agreement With The Spurs To Sign With The Knicks

While the NBA offseason has been absolutely crazy so far, with numerous All-Stars switching teams, the weirdest story of the summer is Marcus Morris signing a deal with the New York Knicks.

Morris’ 2 year, $20 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs already was cut and dried, when, all of a sudden, Morris backed out of the handshake agreement, to sign a 1 year, $15 million contract with the New York Knicks.

According to various reports, the Spurs were ‘pissed’ at Morris for bailing out, not least because the Spurs were trading Davis Bertans and having free agent DeMarre Carroll tweak his deal, to make a Morris signing possible.

Morris himself, now discussed his decision in an interview with The Athletic:

“I have a good relationship with those guys and I have so much respect for Pop, RC and Brian Wright. The first thing that I did when I knew I would be going another direction, I called and made sure they knew. There was no shade. There’s no disrespect. I had great conversations afterward, and as long as I feel that I’m clear with them and gave them my truth, I feel good about moving forward.”
