LeBron James Working On One Goal He Hasn’t Reached In His Career Yet

One may think that LeBron James has reached every goal he has set for himself before entering the league in 2003 by now. 3 Championship rings, 3 Finals MVP awards, 4 regular season MVP awards, 2 All-Star Game MVP awards, 16 All-Star Game nominations, 15 All NBA Teams, 5 All Defensive First Teams, and the Rookie of the Year Award.

But there is one little detail that seems to annoy LeBron. A goal he hasn’t been able to reach yet in his career. A goal James talked to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin about.

“I want to shoot 80 [percent] from the free throw line, man,” James told ESPN. “That’s my only goal. That’s my last goal of my NBA career. That’s my last one. I’ve done everything else.”

LeBron James is a career 73.6% free throw shooter. In his best free throwing season (2008/09), he made 78% of his free throws. In his last couple of seasons, LeBron wasn’t even close to hitting the 80% mark. In 2016-17, James made an underwhelming 67.4% from the line. He was able to improve that number in the 17/18 season to 73.1%, before shooting a subpar and career worst 66.5% last season.

This season, James is shooting 69.7% from the line, but there is some hope for him to still reach his 80% goal in one of his next seasons, due to a specific reason.

Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd now talked about LeBron James’ free throw flaws in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated. In this interview, Kidd revealed how LeBron is trying to correct his charity line troubles and that his most recent adaption seems to come to fruition.

“As you can see, his free throws right now, he’s gone back more closer to his high school free throw and he’s shooting over 80 percent since he’s done that. He’s always searching to get better and is there a way to fix something. And that was probably one of the things in his game that he needed to work on.”
