League Sources Expect Donovan Mitchell To Eventually Request A Trade To The Miami Heat Or New York Knicks

Donovan Mitchell is on the radar of many NBA teams heading into the offseason. While Mitchell is still under contract with the Utah Jazz, there’s some sort of expectation that a breakup with the team could potentially be in the cards after their disappointing exit from the recent NBA playoffs.

The high-caliber Jazz star averaged 25.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game on 44.8% shooting from the field this regular season while leading the Jazz to the fifth seed in the Western Conference.

He then capped off the NBA playoffs with averages of 25.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists on 39.8% shooting as the Jazz lost to the Dallas Mavericks in six games of the first-round.

Mitchell is one of the top shooting guards in the league and is yet to enter the prime years of his career, so it does feel like a no-brainer for the Jazz to focus on building a team around Mitchell, as per previous reports.

But while the Jazz show commitment to the 25-year old shooting guard, league sources are now saying that Mitchell could potentially request a trade to the likes of the Miami Heat or the New York Knicks in the foreseeable future.

Per Action Network:

“As far as the idea of a Donovan Mitchell trade coming down the pike, league sources do feel that it’s a matter of “when and not if” with Mitchell eventually asking to go to a “glamour market” like New York or Miami. But in the short term, there’s skepticism it will happen.”
