Frank Vogel Explains Why Alex Caruso Reminds Him Of Paul George

Alex Caruso is not necessarily a household name, but over the years, he has gotten a lot of media attention while becoming a fan favorite for the Los Angeles Lakers. As fans make him a target of memes, Caruso has shown that that he’s actually more than that.

A meme disguised as a solid role player, Caruso has established a good reputation on the defensive side of the ball which earned him minutes for the Lakers despite his hardly impressive box score numbers. His off-ball capabilities, ability to steal rebounds and grab loose balls have also allowed him to become an impactful player on the hardwood.

Being able to do the little things is where Caruso stands out. This is why it’s easy to tell why Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has always acknowledged the 26-year old Lakers point guard. Just in a recent interview, Vogel heaped high praises to Caruso, likening him to Paul George, whom he coached back with the Indiana Pacers.

Per Rohan Nadkarni of Sports Illustrated:

“When I was watching our pickup games from last season as we built up to training camp, he was just all over the place with his defensive ability. His defensive instincts and athleticism really reminded me of when I used to coach Paul George. I started talking to my coaching staff like, Am I crazy with what I’m seeing here?”
