Former New York Knicks Executive Isn’t Sold On Zach LaVine: “Has Not Impacted Winning”

Chicago Bulls

Zach LaVine has spent seven seasons with the Chicago Bulls, averaging 24.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game on 47.0% shooting from the field. While his individual statistics are impressive, the team success has fallen out of the window.

Since the two-time All-Star has been with the Bulls, the team has largely had a losing record, reaching the playoffs only once in the 2021-22 NBA season after DeMar DeRozan got to the team. Notably, their only playoff appearance ended in a first-round defeat to the Milwaukee Bucks.

The current season doesn’t appear promising for the Bulls either. Expectations are leaning towards a rebuild, with widespread speculation about LaVine being traded.

As LaVine becomes a topic of trade rumors, opinions are split. Some see him as a valuable addition to various teams, while others, like former New York Knicks general manager Scott Perry, question his ability to impact winning despite his offensive talent.

“Zach LaVine can score the basketball…Does he impact winning? Zach LaVine has been to 1 playoff series in 9 years. He’s played a total of 4 playoff basketball games…I’m looking at $40, $43, $46 & $49 million for a guy who—to this point—has not impacted winning to the level that his money says he should impact…”
