Evan Turner Offered To Pay OKC’s Terrance Ferguson’s Fine After Scuffle

During Sunday’s game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Portland Trail Blazers, things got a little chippy.

In the third quarter, during a battle for a rebound, Ed Davis jumped on Terrance Ferguson’s back as he tried to get to the ball. Ferguson then shoved Davis, causing a scuffle with Evan Turner and Russell Westbrook also getting involved.

Knowing how the NBA normally handles situations like this, it’s pretty obvious that some of the players involved will get fined. While we’ve seen teammates covering the fines for players who earn less (LeBron James covering for Dahntay Jones for example), or for rookies, Evan Turner’s offer is a first. Turner offered to pay the fine for Terrance Ferguson. A Blazers player paying the fine for a Thunder player involved in the same scuffle? Why? How? Turner explained going after Ferguson and instantly feeling bad about it:

“I didn’t really want to… he’s a kid. He’s probably 10 years younger than me. I told him I’d pay his fine. It just happened, it’s basketball. There’s nothing more to it. I respect those guys over there. They compete. It’s just a hard-fought game, and there was really nothing more to really drag from this. It’s a frat.

…I just pushed the first two people I saw, and me personally, I don’t feely any good about pushing Ferguson, a 19 year-old.”
