Draymond Green Immediately Called Kevin Durant First After Losing The 2016 NBA Finals

Before tonight’s Game 4, the Golden State Warriors already look like the champions to be. But they did look like the Champions to be last year too, after taking a 3-1 game lead in the Finals. You all know what happened. The Warriors lost 3 straight games, and the Cleveland Cavaliers took home the gold.

Draymond Green still says that he is to blame for that. He was suspended for a game after kicking LeBron in the crotch. That could possibly be the reason why Green tried to put things into his own hands, to guarantee that this won’t be happening a second time.

Zach Lowe published an interesting feature about Draymond Green on ESPN.

Draymond told Lowe that he called Kevin Durant after the Warriors’ Game 7 loss, while still sitting in his car at the Oracle parking lot.

Green was already working on that as he left Oracle Arena after that gutting Game 7 loss. Green sat in his car in the parking lot and called Myers (the Warriors GM), telling him he had to sign Durant. “It’s on you,” Green told Myers.

Green hung up, stayed in the parking lot, and made another call — to Durant. “That was my very next call,” Green said. Two weeks later, Durant signed a maximum contract that put him in a Golden State uniform for at least one season, with several more seasons likely to come.

“If we win the championship, I’m like 99 percent sure we don’t get him,” Green said. “There are silver linings to everything.”

While we don’t know what Green told Durant, this phone call could have been one of the deciding factors for Durant to choose Golden State as his new team, this past summer. And it certainly does not look like history will repeat itself for the Warriors, as the Cavaliers have an even taller mountaing to climb than last year.
