Brendan Haywood Bought Year’s Worth Amount Of Girls Scout Cookies Off Michel Ruffin’s Daughter, Because Her Father ‘Saved His Life’

On October 25, 2004, a preseason brawl between the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls resulted in multiple ejections and ensuing suspensions.

Larry Hughes shoved Kirk Hinrich into his own player, and things got out of hand, leading to Brandan Haywood connecting on a classic NBA push-shove-anti-punch to Antonio Davis’ jaw. Davis and Michael Ruffin, who came to help his teammate Brendan Haywood, were ejected immediately, four other players were suspended in the aftermath, with Haywood earning a three-game suspension.

Haywood now was on the Bleav in Wizards podcast and talked about the infamous brawl. He revealed that due to Ruffin coming in to help him and ‘save his life’, he later bought every last one of Ruffin’s daughter’s Girl Scout Cookies, as a thank you.

“Antonio Davis pushes me and Larry realizes that I’m standing up for him. Antonio Davis gotta be about  6’9, 6’10 – all muscle. Larry pushes him as hard as he can and then he tilts his hand like ‘what’s up!’ And then, after that it was just mayhem. We all just went crazy. I smacked Antonio Davis, he charges me, tackles me. We’re on the ground wrestling. He’s about to get the better of me and then my man Mike Ruffin comes out of the blue, puts him into a full Nelson and saved my life. And true story, Mike Ruffin, the next year was in Milwaukee. His daughter was talking to me about her Girl Scout Cookies and how she wasn’t gonna meet her quote. I said ‘baby, your daddy saved my life, I will buy every last one of those Girl Scout Cookies.’ I don’t even like Girl Scout Cookies. I had so many Girl Scout Cookies that I was passing them around to everybody in the Wizards arena… like the janitor, ticket guy anybody…”
