Victor Wembanyama apparently does not need to see a player’s face to know exactly who is shooting the basketball.
The San Antonio Spurs superstar went perfect in a recent “Guess The Shot” challenge, correctly identifying every player shown to him solely from their shooting animation and body movement.
The concept is simple: players are shown obscured or partially hidden clips of NBA jump shots and have to determine who is shooting based on details such as the gather, release, footwork and overall rhythm. It is a format the NBA has used before with players and analysts, testing just how recognizable certain shooting mechanics really are.
Wembanyama did not miss.
Among the players featured were recognizable shooting personalities such as Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Jalen Brunson and Kyle Anderson, whose unusually deliberate release is one of the more distinctive in the league. The challenge also included former NBA big man Joakim Noah, prompting Wembanyama to initially consider Ricky Rubio before arriving at the correct answer.
