The 2026-27 Turkish Basketball Super League season may have produced one of its best moments on opening night.
TOFAŞ defeated Pizzabulls Bordo Bandırma 90-89 on Friday after captain Yiğitcan Saybir buried an extraordinary desperation shot from deep in his own half as time expired, turning what appeared to be a certain defeat into a one-point victory.
The finish was as dramatic as it gets.
With roughly 1.5 seconds remaining, Pizzabulls (what a name, btw) held an 89-87 lead and went to the free-throw line. The final attempt missed, Saybir secured the rebound and immediately launched the ball toward the opposite basket before the clock could run out. The shot traveled almost the length of the court and dropped through at the horn, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Officials counted the basket as a three-pointer, giving TOFAŞ the 90-89 win in the first game of the new league season. Saybir finished with 18 points and, more importantly, the shot that decided the night.
It was a cruel ending for Pizzabulls, who had put themselves in position to steal the opener in Bursa. The visitors had erased an early deficit and were seconds away from leaving with a victory before the missed free throw gave TOFAŞ one final opportunity.
Saybir needed almost no time to process it.
Rebound. Turn. Launch.
Basket.
