Tyrese Haliburton may be an NBA star, but he still enjoys hunting for a bargain, and he has no problem making an offer well below the asking price.
During a conversation with Speedy Morman, the Indiana Pacers guard revealed that he regularly shops on Facebook Marketplace, where he looks for everything from clothing to electronics. His negotiating strategy is simple: start low and see whether the seller accepts.
“I’m lowballing every offer,” Haliburton said. “I’m offering you half, maybe less.”
Haliburton also shared the story of a recent purchase that led to an unexpected encounter in a Krispy Kreme parking lot. After finding a turntable on Marketplace, he arranged for his wife to contact the seller before they shared the same last name. Haliburton then handled the in-person pickup himself.
“I met up with the dude in the parking lot at Krispy Kreme,” he explained. “My wife, before we had the same last name, messaged him, then I just meet him at Krispy Kreme, because I’m not going to send my girl to do that by herself.”
The transaction initially went like any other Marketplace exchange. Haliburton inspected the turntable, paid the seller and loaded it into his car. Only then did the man begin to realize who had just bought it.
“He was like, ‘Wait, are you?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah. Get in the car…’” Haliburton recalled.

The guard said he also looks for deals on clothing, particularly items that people sell after wearing them once or posting pictures of themselves in them on social media. Rather than pay retail prices, he is happy to buy those pieces secondhand when sellers are ready to move on from them.
Haliburton’s approach amused Morman, who pointed out the unexpected image of an NBA star bargaining with strangers on Facebook Marketplace. Haliburton had a straightforward explanation for why he continues to do it.
“I got to keep this money.”
