Tyrese Haliburton wanted live music at his wedding, but the Indiana Pacers star quickly discovered that booking a major artist for a private celebration could come with a staggering price tag.
During a recent appearance on Boardroom Talks with Speedy Morman, Haliburton revealed that artists he considered hiring quoted as much as $750,000 for a 30-minute performance. He had expected the cost to be substantial, but the figure still caught him off guard.
Haliburton said he tried to work out an alternative arrangement by offering to cover private-jet travel and accommodations. According to his account, one artist did not respond to that proposal. The experience left him so frustrated that he no longer wanted to listen to the performer’s music.
“It’s over with, I’ll never rock with him. I can’t bump him out of respect,” Haliburton said.
He did not publicly identify the artist, leaving the name behind the reported quote undisclosed.
The wedding entertainment ultimately came together through someone Haliburton already knew: 50 Cent. The rapper had developed a relationship with the Pacers guard through his business ties to the team and had been helping him explore potential performers for the celebration. Rather than charge Haliburton a performance fee, 50 Cent offered to take the stage himself, asking only that his travel and accommodations be covered.
Haliburton kept the arrangement a surprise for his guests. When 50 Cent appeared at the wedding celebration with Haliburton’s wife, Jade Jones, the NBA star joined him onstage, turning the performance into one of the night’s most memorable moments.
For Haliburton, the difference between the two experiences was not simply the money. One artist’s reported asking price and lack of response left him disappointed, while 50 Cent’s willingness to perform reflected a relationship that extended beyond a business transaction.
“That’s family,” Haliburton said of the rapper. “Forever I’ve got his back for that.”
