The Spurs Turn Game 4 Into A Defensive Statement

The Western Conference Finals are alive again because San Antonio finally made Oklahoma City look uncomfortable.

The Spurs beat the Thunder 103-82 in Game 4, tying the series at 2-2 and turning Tuesday’s Game 5 in Oklahoma City into a full-pressure swing game. Victor Wembanyama answered San Antonio’s Game 3 disappointment with 33 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals, setting the tone early with a three and a block on Chet Holmgren.

@opencourtVictor Wembanyama was absolutely phenomenal in Game 4, single-handedly blowing out the Thunder. Wemby finished with 33 points, 8 boards, 5 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. 🔥🔥🔥

But this was bigger than Wembanyama’s box score. This was the Spurs discovering their most ruthless version. San Antonio held Oklahoma City to 33% shooting and just 18.2% from three, forced 20 turnovers, and limited the Thunder to their lowest playoff scoring total since 2020.

That was the difference from Game 3. This time, San Antonio’s early punch did not evaporate. Devin Vassell and Stephon Castle gave the Spurs balance, De’Aaron Fox pushed pace and pressure, and the supporting cast held its ground long enough for Wembanyama to dominate the night’s emotional temperature.

For OKC, this was a warning. The Thunder still have home court back in Game 5, but Game 4 stripped away the comfort of control. Their depth did not overwhelm San Antonio the way it did two nights earlier. Their spacing collapsed. Their rhythm disappeared. Their offense looked less like a machine and more like a puzzle missing pieces.

Now the series is no longer about momentum. It is about answers. The Thunder found one in Game 3. The Spurs delivered theirs in Game 4 with defense, discipline and the tallest problem in basketball standing at the center of everything.
