Luka Dončić’s European Rehab Offers Encouragement, But Not A Clear Return Date Yet

Luka Dončić’s recovery plan appears to be moving forward in stages, and the latest reporting suggests there is at least some reason for optimism; just not enough to declare a return imminent. On April 6 that Dončić traveled to Europe for specialized treatment on his Grade 2 left hamstring strain after consultations with Lakers doctors and his own medical team, with the goal of speeding up a recovery that would normally take about a month.

The newer updates point to a structured rehab path rather than a sudden breakthrough. Multiple secondary reports, citing Slovenian outlet Ekipa, say Dončić completed an initial phase of treatment in Spain, spent a short break in Slovenia, and is expected to return to Madrid for the next stage before flying back to Los Angeles. This is positive news, however it isn’t evidence that he is on the verge of immediately returning to game action. B

What can be stated firmly is that Dončić is trying to be aggressive with the recovery process. The Lakers’ hope is that the European treatment can shorten what is typically a four-to-six-week timetable and give him a chance to return during the postseason, though it is unclear whether these cutting-edge treatments are meaningfully more effective than what he could receive in the United States.
